Pribojska Banja: Body-Temperature Water at Terme 36.6

The springs at Pribojska Banja emerge at 37°C with a yield of 70 litres per second. The water is thermal and oligomineral — weakly mineralised — and Terme 36.6 runs it through its pools at 36.6°C.

Running water rather than recirculated water is the detail worth noticing. Four thermal pools are fed continuously, two of them on the roof of the building, which is an unusual arrangement in Serbia and gives you an open-air soak with a valley view. The centre also has a salt room, a Finnish sauna, a jacuzzi and a tepidarium.

The medical side is separate. The Rehabilitation Centre "Pribojska Banja" reopened after a full refurbishment in 2009, and the physical medicine and rehabilitation ward of the Priboj medical centre staffs it. That means real clinical provision on site rather than a wellness menu wearing medical language.

We do not hold a published price list for either the pools or the treatments, nor a verified indication list for the rehabilitation centre. Both are worth confirming directly before travelling.

There is accommodation at the spa itself and further rooms in and around Priboj, but we do not hold a verified bed count, room standard or price band for any of it — which is a fair reflection of how little this spa is marketed outside Serbia.

Priboj is the practical base if the spa is full. It is a small town in the Lim valley, close to the Bosnian border, with ordinary shops and services rather than a tourist infrastructure.

Book ahead in summer. A spa with rooftop thermal pools and a low profile is exactly the kind of place that fills up locally without ever appearing on an international booking site.

By car it is 198 km from Belgrade and close to three hours, south-west through Čačak and Užice into the Lim valley. The distance is moderate but much of the route is ordinary road rather than motorway, which is why the drive takes longer than the kilometres suggest; avoid arriving after dark on a first visit.

Priboj is served by intercity buses from Belgrade, and the spa is a short local hop from the town. The Belgrade–Bar railway passes through this part of Serbia and Priboj has a station on it, which makes the train a genuinely scenic alternative — check current services rather than assuming a convenient departure.

If you are already heading south-west, Pribojska Banja pairs naturally with Novi Pazar and the spas around it, which lie to the south-east.

The rooftop pools are the reason to choose this spa over any other in the region, and they are best in cool weather — an open-air soak at body temperature is more of an event in October than in August. They are also the part most likely to be affected by weather or maintenance, so confirm they are open when you book rather than on arrival.

Consider the train. Priboj sits on the Belgrade–Bar line, one of the more spectacular railways in Europe, and arriving that way turns the journey into part of the trip instead of four hours of driving. Services are limited, so plan around the timetable rather than expecting it to fit your plans.

Keep the two sides of the spa straight. Terme 36.6 is where you buy pool entry and a sauna; the Rehabilitation Centre is a clinical facility with its own admissions. Asking the wrong one for the other's services is the most common way to waste a phone call here.

The Bosnian border is close, and Priboj is a natural stop on a route between Serbia and Sarajevo or Višegrad. If you are crossing anyway, this spa costs you very little detour.
