Introduction
Why Visit Junaković Banja
Junaković Banja draws its water from 700 m down, where it arrives at over 50°C. Ten outdoor pools, an indoor therapy pool, two Finnish saunas, tennis courts and 270 beds make it a resort rather than a clinic with a pool attached. It stands 4.5 km from Apatin in north-western Vojvodina, near the Danube and 190 km from Belgrade.
Junaković Banja is a thermal spa in north-western Vojvodina, 4.5 km from Apatin on the edge of the Junaković park-forest and close to the Danube. Its water comes from 700 m down and arrives at over 50°C, and unlike most Serbian spas of this size it has been built out into something a family can spend a week in.
There are ten outdoor pools, an indoor therapy pool, two Finnish saunas, a gym, eight bowling lanes and four tennis courts, with 270 beds on site and a restaurant seating 450. That is a resort rather than a clinic with a pool attached, and it makes Junaković Banja the most straightforwardly enjoyable stop on the Vojvodina spa circuit.
Serbian and cross-border tourism material places it in the same category as Karlovy Vary, Hévíz, Harkány and Lipik. Treat that as positioning rather than a promise — the buildings are a good deal plainer than any of those — but the water and the scale are real.
Treatments
Water From 700 Metres, and What It Treats
The thermal water is drawn from roughly 700 m and reaches the surface at over 50°C, far too hot to enter directly; it is cooled on its way into the pools. Several sources quote up to 60°C at the wellhead, a figure worth attributing rather than repeating flatly.
The spa treats rheumatism, orthopaedic and neurological conditions, gynaecological disease and disorders of the respiratory tract, using the indoor therapy pool alongside the recreational complex outside. As at most Serbian banje, the medical side and the holiday side share the same grounds — you will be among patients on a rehabilitation programme, which is normal here and worth expecting.
We do not hold a published price list, nor a verified account of which therapies are sold to walk-in guests. Pool access is the part you can plan around; anything clinical is worth confirming in advance.
Nature & Setting
The Park-Forest and the Danube
The spa sits on the edge of the Junaković park-forest, which is what gives the pool complex its setting: mature trees, rather than the open flatland that covers most of this part of Vojvodina.
The Danube is close by, and Apatin, 4.5 km away, is a river town with a fishing tradition, a marina and a long-established brewery. The Gornje Podunavlje wetlands run north along the river towards Bezdan and are among the better birdwatching areas in Serbia. None of this requires the spa, but it is what fills the hours between swims.
Where to Stay
Where to Stay at Junaković Banja
The spa has 270 beds on site and a restaurant seating 450, which by the standards of this guide makes it a large property — most Serbian banje outside Vrnjačka Banja and Sokobanja run to a few dozen rooms. Staying inside the complex is the sensible choice, since the pools, the saunas and the sports facilities are all part of it.
Apatin, 4.5 km away, has further hotels and private rooms if the spa is full, or if you would rather be in a town in the evenings.
We have no verified nightly rates. Vojvodina spa prices are generally low by Western European standards, but this guide does not print a number it cannot source.
Getting There
Getting to Junaković Banja
By car it is 190 km from Belgrade and a little under three hours: north-west across Vojvodina towards Sombor, then west to Apatin. The roads are flat and fast, and the last few kilometres from the town to the spa are signposted.
Apatin is served by intercity buses from Belgrade and Novi Sad, and the spa is a short taxi ride from the bus station. Sombor, roughly half an hour away, is the larger regional hub if you need more frequent connections or a railway station.
Coming from Hungary, this is one of the easiest Serbian spas to reach — the border crossings at Bezdan and Bački Breg are both close, which is why the spa turns up in cross-border tourism material.
