History

The healing properties of the water at Bezdan were formally recognised in 1912. The spa complex as it stands was completed in 1954, when the facility gained the status of a natural medical resort — the Yugoslav-era designation that put it into the state health system rather than the tourist one, which is where it has stayed.

Iodine-Rich Water and a Full Therapy Department
The water is alkaline sodium-hydrocarbonate and notably rich in iodine, emerging between 26 and 37°C. It is used for rheumatic and orthopaedic conditions.
The therapeutic provision is more substantial than the spa's obscurity suggests: three kinesitherapy halls, two indoor pools, electrotherapy, paraffin therapy, occupational therapy, underwater therapy and hydrotherapy, laser therapy and manual massage. This is a working rehabilitation department rather than a wellness menu.

The 95 beds here are hospital beds, in rooms of three, four and six, and they are for patients. There is no visitor accommodation at Bezdanska Banja and it would be misleading to present it as an option.
Sombor, the regional centre, is close and has ordinary hotels; Apatin and Junaković Banja are also within easy reach and are the sensible base for anyone who wants to see this part of the Danube.
Getting There
Getting to Bezdanska Banja
By car it is 215 km from Belgrade and a little over three hours, north-west across Vojvodina to Sombor and then on to Bezdan, close to the Hungarian and Croatian borders.
Sombor is well served by intercity buses from Belgrade and Novi Sad, and Bezdan is a short local hop beyond it. Given that the spa has no tourist function, the practical reason to make this journey is a treatment programme rather than a visit.
